asado

Yesterday, Maggy and I made the rounds around Buenos Aires: hunting for meat, gathering fruits and vegetables. The men stayed at home cultivating beer and wine. Tonight, we dine with friends, hosting as opposed to being hosted.

What started as a small gathering of new friends has evolved into a mini rooftop party of new friends. Makes me nostalgic for charcoal BBQ back home, the days of summer that were pure and clean and just about the food and beer. The days when friends — some old, some new — would gather and get down on grub. Sling some “oat-sodas”. Ode to Turner. Trade book titles with the Camera-man. Listen to easy-rap with a little help from DJ Dog Di… I can’t. Chef P basting. Bird-twitters and musings from Mr. Parker. TranMan teaching photos. The two-wheel-roll-up by CC. Then, of course, the best part: my girls, Banane and Lizerton, slowly sipping soaking it all in.

The theme song of the summer to come, with a big shout-out to Waaaaylon:

I was born by the river, in a little tent
And oh just like the river I’ve been runnin’, ever since
It’s been a long… long time comin’, but I know…
A change is gonna come, woah yes it will

It’s been too hard livin’, but I’m afraid to die
Cause I don’t know what’s up there, beyond the sky
It’s been a long… long time coming, but I know…
A change is gonna come, woah yes it will

Now I go to the movies, and I go downtown
But somebody keeps telling me don’t, hang around
It’s been a long… long time coming, but I know…
A change is gonna come, woah yes it will
Yes sir

So now I go to my brother
And I say, “Brother, help me please” (yeah)
But somehow he winds up knocking me
Back down on my knees, woah…

There were times I thought, I wouldn’t last for long
Now I think I’m able, able to carry on
It’s been a long… long time coming, but I know…
A change is gonna come, yes it will, oh
I know, a change is going to come
I said I know

A change is gonna come (hey)
A change is gonna come, right now (oh)
A change is gonna come, I see it now

I said a change
Is gonna come

Since moving to the city, the country, of grills and meat, I have learned to build fire and sizzle steaks. Looks like something new is going to start happening…
